Sound piece

https://youtu.be/ISBMY2K8XpU?si=UaEKzIH-MxjRmSkY Here is the link to my first sound piece on garage band. Growing up in Wisconsin I was always surrounded by horrible midwestern emo music. Just a group of white guys in their early 20s or late 30s trying to make something of themselves. As I got older I grew to like them, no one in the group could sing and the mediocre guitar and basses would have to make up for it and it became very familiar to me. That’s what inspired me to try and make something similar to, it’s my right as a Wisconsinite. The bass doesn’t match up with the guitar but they keep going anyway and even though the violin doesn’t fit it still shoves itself in there anyway. Hard to listen to but after a while you get used to it like mccaferty song.

photo layout

https://build.blurb.com/share/66B1D76D-952E-4227-972C-78CA7F404906 This is a link to my blurb book because the screenshots and photos weren't uploading from my phone. I edited and matched the photos based on their colors or vibes to avoid a jarring mix, such as a bright red Babymetal performance next to a calmer picture of my friends skating. I thought it would be boring to just have 2 photos on each page, so I put 3 out there at random and then did spreads every now and then across two whole pages. I'm not a poet or anything, so I didn't want to put super deep captions and just wrote how I felt in the moment those pictures were taken, to the best of my ability.

Final

https://youtu.be/wc90vGD0IYI?si=2E9va91tzHD1_cQy My final was a lot of fun to make because I felt like a 5 year old hitting their head on the tablet over and over again to make sounds that only made sense to me. I wanted to do something I was sort of familiar with like GarageBand. With the lack of volunteers for my drag show I had to work with what I know I had and that was this funny little music app I have on my tablet that I’ve only ever used for a computer programming camp when I was 9. So I looked back at what made it fun for 9 year old me which was literally just making noise on my iPad and embraced it. It sounds absolutely terrible but 9 year old me made it so as long as she was having fun then I didn’t care. Technically it’s music according to McLuhan because everything we hear is music in its own way.

Flikr

Brooklynn Bates | Flickr I finally found photos that I think go together and mean something to me. These are bright and flashy moments I captured on camera that make me feel something that I don't feel a lot on a day-to-day basis, especially here in Appleton. In these photos, I'm with my friends, or I'm surrounded by colors underneath the night sky, or my eardrums are bleeding from how loud it is there. Of course, I love nature too. I love the sound of water splashing against things, I love how bright flowers look, and I love being surrounded by animal noises, but there is something about concerts and blinding lights that makes me feel like it means something to be in that moment with other people experiencing the same thing. If you don't wake up with a headache, then how do you know you had fun?
