blog 1: what I want you to see
Good morning, my name is Brooklynn, and for as long as I can remember, I’ve loved all forms of art and the things you can do with them.
I’ve never been good at explaining things or expressing myself; I’m either too blunt or not clear enough with people, and it makes it difficult for people to understand what I want them to see. I love art because I can make people see whatever I want them to. When I was younger, I helped paint the Vel Philips mural that's displayed on the wall of the old Bronzeville Collective building in my city. I loved surrounding her with these colors that drew your attention towards her and made her glow.
I also like presenting myself in ways I want, and to help me grow into the woman I want to become, I can give and take away as much of myself as I want when I sculpt or draw myself. I also like to hoard and repurpose things I think can be beautiful.
“When this circuit learns your job, what are you going to do?"
My job is to present myself, other people, and whatever else I want in ways I think they deserve to be seen. I am nervous about big corporations pushing AI and all of these machines down our throats, but I know that they can only mimic what I can do naturally. It's just a tool or a sorry excuse for an extension of the human body, and without any of my input, there won't be an output. So I can continue to do what I love without “circuits,” but they can’t go on without me.
